长期从事分析化学教学和研究工作。研究工作涉及催化动力学分析、流动注射分析、色谱分析和中草药有效成分研究等领域。在催化动力学分析研究中，发现和提出一系列新的指示反应，并建立了相应的高灵敏度、高选择性分析方法，被国内外引用高达208篇次，其中“流动注射催化光度法同时测定NO2- 和NO3-”的研究被美国SR Crouch评价为“97 -99年间最有意义的创造性成果”。在流动注射分析中，研究建立了一系列采用超声消解、膜分离、固相反应器等在线预反应和分离的新方法。在色谱分析和中草药有效成分研究领域开展了以生物色谱和基因芯片技术筛选分离中药有效成分的研究工作。
先后在Anal.Chim.Acta、Talanta、Atomic Spectroscopy、Microchim.Acta、化学学报、科学通报、高等学校化学学报、分析化学、中国中药杂志等国内外刊物发表论文60余篇，三项科研成果获教育部和陕西省科技进步奖。主持完成的一项教学成果获陕西省优秀教学成果二等奖。1999年获国务院特殊津贴，2001年被评为陕西省高教系统优秀共产党员。目前，主持国家自然科学基金项目一项、教育部科技重点项目一项。
